There’s a shelf in my shop that’s ten years deep in broken things. A dead N64. A backup unit nobody could boot. A PC that won’t POST. Every one of them is a fix I put off, and a question I never answered. Shelf Life is me finally pulling them down, one at a time, and not stopping until I know why.
The repair is the door, not the destination
Most repair shows end the second the thing turns on. This one doesn’t. The broken machine is just the way in. In to a skill I didn’t have, an expert who does, a piece of documentation that didn’t exist until I sat down and wrote it. Sometimes it boots. Sometimes it stays dead. Either way I get up from the bench knowing something I didn’t know when I sat down.
The win is knowing why
That’s the whole rule, and I say it out loud in the first episode. “It works” is nice. “I know why” is the actual win. A machine that never powers on again can still win its episode, as long as the knowledge banks. Written down, dumped, mapped, so the next person doesn’t have to start from zero.
Re-shelved, never forgotten
Nothing here gets a GAME OVER. When a run hits a wall I can’t clear yet, a part on backorder, a tool I don’t own, an expert I haven’t reached, it goes back on the shelf with a note instead of in the trash. Re-shelved, never forgotten. It comes back around.
What an episode looks like
One broken thing off the shelf. A triage. A wall. A detour that forces a new skill, or brings in someone who has spent their life on exactly the thing in my hands. The trip back to the bench. And the ripple, what that repair (or that failure) teaches for every run after it.
It starts September 12, 2026
Shelf Life premieres September 12, 2026. New episodes land on YouTube, and the repairs happen live on Twitch every Tuesday and Saturday at 7pm Eastern. Come watch a run in real time, walls and all.
This stopped making financial sense a long time ago. That’s how I know it matters.
